Ruby
Williams
As you drive out
of Tampa there are plant stands selling fresh strawberries and
produce along the way. Ruby Williams used to make signs and paintings
at her produce stand to lure in the customers and lure them in
she did
but they wanted to buy her paintings, not her fruits
and vegetables! The produce stand is now covered with artwork
and Ruby is there to greet visitors in her paint-covered bibs
and lively personality. The work is acrylic on board with child-like
images of people and often-times a message. Her business card
boasts of her three callings: artist, produce sales, and preacher.
Her work has been exhibited at the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland
and the Mennello Folk Art Museum in Orlando.
