Tubby Brown passed away in 2003.
He was a Georgia folk artist who was trained as a carpenter, ran
a grocery store with his brother for 35 years and began to make
art in 1981 after heart problems forced him to retire. He is known
for his brightly painted wood cutouts and tin constructions. Tubby
said he dreamed at night of his images and would build them the
next day. Biblical themes are prominent in his work.
