Known as the "Alabama
Mud Painter", Jimmie Lee Sudduth is one of the most well-known
of American folk artists and is included in many major folk art
collections and exhibitions. A friend recently told me that Oprah
Winfrey collects his work. He was born in 1910 and spent his life
working construction, doing gardening, and working on farms. He
says he has painted all his life. Most of his work is on plywood,
incorporates house paint along with mud, creating images of people,
animals and houses. The images and colors are soft, simple and
lovely.
