"In 1993,
I was working at IBM and met a girl who shared a house with some
artists. One day, they brought out some supplies, and I started
painting and couldn't stop." (Matt Sesow, Washington Post,
March 28, 2004) So began Matt Sesow's painting career, all to
impress a girl, who was later to become his wife. This self-taught
artist's paintings depict people with big mouths, teeth and eyes.
The bold brush strokes, vibrant colors, and strong images spill
out raw emotion. Matt lost his left arm from contact with an airplane
propeller at the age of eight. Sometimes his work references this
traumatic event.
