W.
D. Harden
W D Harden was
born and raised in "small town" Georgia. He got an education
in the scientific aspects of agri-business, but was very unsatisfied
and unfulfilled with that type of work. More than a decade ago
he became aware of and fascinated by folk/outsider art as a genre.
He saw paintings by some of the 'old timer' folk artists in Georgia
and Alabama, which gave him the courage to try his hand at painting.
Harden, a closet musician/ guitarist with a love for the original
blues of Robert Johnson, was inspired by the lyrics of perhaps
Johnson's most famous tune, " Got a Hellhound on My Trail".
He started out painting Hellhounds and has painted them ever since.
The Hellhound has become his signature character, however over
the years he has diversified a bit and also paints Flying Hellhounds
and Helligators and an occasional Snake and sometimes surprise
subjects just jump out. For several years he had been rather reclusive,
working /painting/living a solitary existence in rural north Georgia,
and selling his work via the Internet. Harden has recently moved
from Georgia to western North Carolina to paint and live with
his love, Ramona Hotel.
